About

An atelier, not a factory.

Kōbō was started by a small team of game designers, writers and engineers who got tired of AI tools that look like slot machines and read like spam. We wanted something quieter. Something that respected the craft.

The word kōbō (工房) means workshop or atelier — the kind of place where a single object takes a week, and the floor is swept every evening. That's the energy we wanted to bring to AI generation: tools that produce one really good thing, not a hundred mediocre ones.

Every generator on this site is hand-tuned. The RPG quest tool doesn't just spit a sentence; it returns three acts, a twist, a moral stake. The haiku tool actually counts syllables and picks a season word. The Steam description tool follows the structure Valve's best-performing pages use.

We are independent, bootstrapped, and we plan to stay that way. The Pro tier pays for the servers; the ads pay for the free tier; nobody pays for our roadmap except us.

Principles
  • Ma — space between things. Restraint is a feature, not a missing one.
  • Shibui — sober beauty. No glow, no neon, no slop.
  • Wabi-sabi — imperfect, weathered, human. Output should read like a person wrote it.
  • Shokunin — the spirit of the artisan. Build it well, or don't ship it.
